Overall, forecast has good handle on the immediate short term. However, would not be surprised to see more sunshine in these areas than currently forecast. So, confidence in amount of clearing today is on the low side, but will generally expect some partly cloudy conditions to remain this afternoon from the inland coastal plain into the valleys. Some northerly winds across the Santa Ynez Range have allowed for the clouds to mix out across the southern waters and adjacent coastal areas. Sounding data indicates a deep, but relatively weak, inversion. The second issue is the clearing of the stratus. However, will watch this closely this afternoon. So, there will likely be some afternoon cumulus buildups, but the chances for any showers or thunderstorms is about 5-10% over the LA/Ventura mountains. CAPE values and stability parameters are decent, but again, less than yesterday. With respect to convective possibilities, model soundings indicate PWAT (Precipitable Water) values around 0.50-0.60 inches this afternoon (down from Tuesday) and these model values match up well with Total PWAT (Precipitable Water) imagery from satellite. Some locally gusty west to northwest winds, gusts 25-35 MPH, are observed across the mountains as well as the desert foothills.įorecast-wise for the immediate short term, two main issues will be mountain convection and clearing of stratus. Current sounding data indicate a deep, but rather weak inversion, around 5000 feet deep. Latest satellite and surface observations indicate partly to mostly cloudy skies across most areas with a combination of stratus clouds and some high clouds. Temperatures will be below normal through Thursday then a warming trend is expected Friday and Saturday. There will be areas of drizzle or light rain possible again this morning. Night through morning low clouds and fog with limited afternoon clearing will continue through much of the week.
